Multiple gunshots allegedly fired by clashing rival groups of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) have sent commuters scampering for safety in the Obalende area of Lagos.
Video reports confirmed by the police show many Nigerians taking to their heels Thursday morning as gunshots could be heard in the distance.
The incident reportedly occurred around 8:00 am.
A witness, Abass Oyeyemi wrote, “Insecurity in Lagos has skyrocketed. Especially on the Island. Crazy shooting by NURTW guys going on at Obalende. This is just after about four days of shootings at Adeniji Adele. Thank God for life.”
In one of the videos sighted by The Herald, the siren of a security agency’s vehicle could be heard racing towards the scene of the shooting.
