The Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, has presented a royal plaque to afrobeats sensation Rema, in recognition of his contributions to promoting the Benin kingdom and its legacy through his music.

Rema, who is from Benin City, visited the Oba’s palace ahead of his homecoming concert at the Ogbe Stadium. The singer has been a proud ambassador of Edo State, showcasing its rich culture and heritage in his music and concerts.

The royal medal comes after Rema’s latest hit song, “Benin Boys,” which featured fellow Edo-born star Shallipopi and paid tribute to the city of Benin. In the song, Rema mentioned deserving a medal from the Oba for promoting the kingdom.
