The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) provided mattresses on Friday for corps members recruited as ad hoc staff for the general elections in Niger.
In a statement in Minna on Friday, Mrs Theresa Arokoyo, NYSC Coordinator in Niger, noted that the mattresses were meant to provide comfort for corps while they carried out the national assignment.
Arokoyo said the mattresses were provided following a directive from the NYSC Director-General, Maj. Gen. Suleiman Kazaure, to state coordinators to ensure corps members engaged as ad-hoc staff slept comfortably.
Arokoyo disclosed that the mattresses had already been released to corps members for use for their electoral duties at the various registration area centres (RACs).
“The mattresses have been conveyed to RACs today February 22, 2019.
“The mattresses were provided for corps members’ comfort as they perform their duties as electoral officers in the general election,” she said.
Last week when the Presidential and National Assembly elections, NYSC some members engaged as ad hoc staff for the exercise claimed they slept on the floor in the open while they waited to proceed to their places of deployment.
The elections were called off four hours to commencement and shifted to Saturday, Feb. 23.
