NYSC to provide SMEs loans to corps members — Coordinator

2 Min Read

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) will continue to provide loans to interested corps members to set up small-scale businesses, says the state Coordinator, Mr Thomas Yamma.

Yamma said this at the NYSC Cultural Carnival and Display of handicrafts produced by Batch ‘B’ 2016 corps members deployed to the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the event held at the permanent orientation camp in Wamakko, headquarters of Wamakko Local Government Area.

Yamma said that each of the benefiting corps members would receive between N200,000 and N1 million under the loans scheme.

”This is to make the corps members to be self-reliant and be employers of labour, rather than waiting for elusive white collar jobs.

”This is to provide an answer to the persistent question of “After NYSC, what next?

”The loan scheme is designed to provide the corps members a way out of the current recession and the dearth of job opportunities in the public and private sectors.”

Yamma further said that the cultural carnival was to showcase Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage.

According to him, the carnival has replaced the endurance trek hitherto organised for the corps members while on camp.

In a message, the wife of the Governor, Hajiya Mairo Tambuwal, advised the corps members to strive to be self-reliant.

Hajiya Tambuwal, who spoke through Hajiya Binta Maidoki, also promised to partner the NYSC to move the scheme forward.

The Chairman of the state’s NYSC Governing Board, Alhaji Muhammad Abubakar, represented by Hajiya Aisha Salihu, said that adequate arrangements had been made for the welfare and security of the corps members.(NAN)
