The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Plateau has deployed 5,300 corps members as ad hoc staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Mr Abdulsalam Al-Hassan, the NYSC State Coordinator, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Jos on Wednesday.

Al-Hassan said the deployment was based on the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed with INEC for use of all serving corps members as ad hoc staff with the exception of pregnant and married women.

According to him, 5,615 corps members are currently serving in the state.

He said that no corps member would be posted to points considered as flashpoints as given to us by INEC.

“I have held several meetings with the various security agencies in the state and with the various NYSC Local Government Inspectors to reiterate that no corps members is posted to points marked out as flash points,’’ the coordinator said.

Al-Hassan said the posting of corps members would be done in conjunction with the electoral officers to ensure that corps members are not posted to identified flashpoints.

He said that the NYSC Plateau office had embarked on sensitisation of the corps members in the 17 Local Government Areas of the state to be apolitical in the discharge of their duties.

“The corps members were told that this is not a money-making venture.

“They should uphold the mandate of the NYSC by ensuring that they are apolitical and non-partisan as they discharge their ad hoc duties in the coming polls,’’ Al-Hassan said. (NAN)
