Retired Super Eagles captain, Nwankwo Kanu has been robbed of $11,000 (app. N3.96m) in Russia’s Sheremetyevo airport.
The 41-year-old was on his way to play a FIFA-organised charity game when the incident occurred in the Moscow airport.
Kanu, who arrived Sheremetyevo airport in Moscow from London, was transferring to a flight to Kaliningrad, the venue of the game, when the incident happened.
According to TASS, quoting police sources, two baggage handlers who offloaded luggage from the London flight stole the money from the checked-in luggage.
Police sources confirmed Kanu as the owner of the money which has since been confiscated from the supports and would be returned to the former Arsenal striker.
Vanguard reported that Kanu played in Kaliningrad in a special “Relive the Legends” friendly match on Sunday as part of a team of FIFA Legends against a team of Russian veterans. Kanu’s team won 6-4.
