NULGE seeks extension anti-graft probe to LGAs

2 Min Read

The National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) has called on the Federal Government to extend its anti-graft probe to all local governments in the country.
The NULGE National President, Alhaji Ibrahim Khaleel, made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Maiduguri on Sunday.
According to him, the fight against corruption will not yield any positive result unless the Federal Government extends the probe to all the local governments’ joint accounts.
Khaleel said that the government must extend the anti-graft probe to the local government joint accounts to enable it achieve the desired goal.
He said the probe of the local government joint accounts was imperative because some government officials used it to siphon billions of tax payers’ money.
He commended the ongoing probe by President Muhammadu Buhari, and added that it would have the desired impact if extended to the all tiers of governments.
“Corruptions did not start from Abuja, it started at the grassroots were every politician came from. So, the government must start its probes from there before it can really fight corruption.
“The money that has been hijacked completely over the years by state governors should also be of great concern to Mr President and his government.
“As this will go a long way in solving major challenges facing the country at this point in time,’’ he said.
The NULGE president said the union would support the Federal Government with any necessary information it required to stamp out corruption at the local administration.
