NUJ urges revitilisation of Radio Kano

2 Min Read

The Kano State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has called on the state government to revitalise its 70-year-old radio station, popularly known as Radio Kano.

This is contained in a Communique signed by the council’s Chairman, Abduljalal Haruna, and issued to newsmen at the end of its monthly Congress meeting held in Kano on Sunday.

“Because of the pathetic condition of the Kano State-owned Radio station, the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Kano State Council, hereby calls on the Kano State Government to quickly intervene and save the reputable Radio station from dying,” the union said.

The union noted with dismay the skeletal services being rendered by the 70-year-old broadcasting outfit, stressing the need for the state government to revitalise it to the fullest.

The communiqué said necessary measures should be taken to revive the station in view of its strategic relevance in information dissemination and the over all development of the state.

It also reminded the state government of its earlier promise to revive the Triumph Publishing Company which was closed down by the administration of former Gov. Rabi’u Kwankwaso.

“The Kano State Government has earmarked certain amount of money in the 2016 budget for the revival of the newspaper company and we are calling for its immediate implementation,” the union said.

On the current economic situation in the country, the council advised the Federal Government to alleviate the hardships being faced by Nigerians.(NAN)
