Sunshine Stars Football Club of Akure on Wednesday defeated visiting Wikki Tourists FC of Bauchi 3-1 in a week 18 match of the 2015/2016 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the match played at the Ondo State Sports Complex in Akure saw the home team dominating proceedings from start to finish.
Afolabi Okiki scored the first goal for the home team in the 29th minute from the penalty spot, before Obaje Usman equalised for the visitors in the 38th minute.
Okiki scored his second goal of the encounter in the 53rd minute to bring his total goals haul so far in the season to 10.
The host team captain, Abe Sunday, then scored in the 85th minute to make it 3-1.
During the post-match interview, Solomon Ogbeide, the Sunshine Stars’ Technical Adviser, told newsmen he was sure of a better outing in the next game by his team.
He said he was sure of this in view of the performance of his players in the encounter against Wikki Tourists.
“I am trying to turn the squad into a winning team. I have not strengthened the team to my taste, because this is the team I inherited from my predecessor.
“I still have a lot of work to do to improve the team,’’ Ogbeide said.
NAN reports that Sunshine Stars will in their next match take on Abia Warriors FC in Umuahia, in a week 19 encounter in the league.(NAN)
