Rivers United FC of Port Harcourt coach, Stanley Eguma, says the club is targeting to win three away matches to be in contention for the league title.
Eguma disclosed this on Sunday after United beat Plateau United of Jos, 2-0 in a Nigeria Professional League (NPFL) match at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Port Harcourt.
He said that the team’s focus was on the league title.
“My boys played a very good game. I am pleased with the result, to win the match by 2-0. We will continue to work hard above our capacity.
“It is important that we win at home but I want to see what we can do with the final three away matches of the season,” he said.
Eguma said the team would put more effort to get their title in the next away game against Enugu Rangers.
“Yes, it is important to win all games right now. We are expecting to get our title in Enugu.
“So, we will do everything not to draw but to win that game this weekend,” he said.
Plateau United coach, Zarkari Baraje, said that he was satisfied with the result and not ashamed of losing in Port Harcourt.
Baraje said Rivers United was good and strong enough to win the league title.
“So, there is nothing wrong to be ashamed for losing 2-0 to Rivers United. You know that we also won them in Plateau,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Bernard Ovoke scored the first goal for Rivers United in the 31st minute while substitute player, Daniel Israel scored the second goal in the 84th minute.
