NPFL: MFM FC blames loss on poor standard of play

The Mountain of Fire Ministries (MFM) FC of Lagos on Sunday blamed its 3-1 loss to Uyo-based Akwa United FC on poor quality of play by its players.

The assistant coach of the club,, Suleiman Obinna, made the assertion shortly after the week 34 Nigeria Professional Football League encounter with Akwa United FC at Godswill Akpabio stadium, Uyo.

Obinna said that his team did not play up to expectation and as such, they lost the match.

“The challenge of the team is that it is the only team in the professional league that parades grassroots players.

” The boys are not exposed professionally,” Obinna added.

He also noted that football was no mathematics and as such, anything could happen in the course of play.

Obinna, however, said that in the Nigerian league, one could only hold his own at home and tried to manage a point in away match.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that MFM FC had earlier walloped Akwa United FC 3-0 in Lagos.

In a reaction to his team’s victory, Akwa United FC Technical Director, Maurice Cooreman, said that he was happy because his boys played according to instruction.

“I told them to play good football and not to dribble too much,” Cooreman said.

He said that United could not win away because a lot of things worked against them.

Cooreman, however, expressed the hope that his team would win the next two away matches, if the quality of officiating was good.

NAN reports that Hassan Babangida of Akwa United scored twice in the 18th and 72 minutes while teammate, Ubong Friday increased the tally to three barely four minutes to the end of the match.

Ifeanyi Ifeanyi scored MFM`s only goal through a penalty in added time
