Former Governor, Rotimi Amaechi who finally was screened today by the Senate sent the social media world into frenzy.
There was mild drama in the Red Chambers as the Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio announced that the PDP caucus in the senate had decided not to be involved in the screening of Amaechi since there are petitions against him that they have not resolved.
The Majority leader of the senate, Ali Ndume then said that since the PDP senators do not have questions for Amaechi, he should be allowed to take a bow and go. PDP senators vehemently rejected the request and the proper screening began.
1.On Issues Concerning Nigerian Governors’ Forum as the former chairman.
‘All we did in the Governors Forum was to defend the rights of Nigerians.I find it difficult to do what people want me to do, if it clashes with my principles. Nigerian politicians believe there is need for compromise but not when it clashes with my principles’.
2.On becoming a minister of Niger-Delta
‘If I become the Minister for Niger Delta, the East – West Road will be first to be completed’.
3.On corruption charges levelled against him
‘I have never collected bribe in my life. If they send a girl to you to do something for her and you sleep with the girl, you are corrupt.Corruption is difficult to define. If we keep to the rule of law, allow a Governor to function as a Governor, that will be it’.
4.On his first 100 days as minister
‘I believe there is Change in the air, that is why I joined APC. We must improve on the Social Rights of the people; if you have peace you’ll have investors. Why people don’t invest in Nigeria is because the cost of investment is higher than the profit’.We must also invest in Education; Some of our youths are unemployable’.
It was a security nightmare getting Amaechi out of the Senate chambers! https://t.co/706QdhNeF4

Amaechi might be right. He doesn't take bribe he just receives the alerts. 😁 pic.twitter.com/3Hf6WAXlvs

It was good comedy watching Amaechi who shut down the Judiciary and State Assembly for one year talk about Executive Recklessness today.

I loved the camaraderie between Rotimi Amaechi and the Senators today and the manner Dr Saraki conducted affairs with grace and panache!

Amaechi and Oyenusi: A tale of two robbers. One loots billions, crowned a minister, the other steals pennies, shot! pic.twitter.com/MctfsVVPjB

Lawmakers are elected to speak, to debate and to engage. PDP's silence today on Amaechi's screening is a big minus on democracy. Shame!
