The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has revealed that a former northern Governor, Danjuma Goje of Gombe state illegally awarded a contract of N1 billion for the printing of Dictionaries to secondary schools while in office between 2003 and 2011.

Prosecution witness, Salisu Abaji made the revelation yesterday before the Federal High Court sitting in Jos during the trial of the former Gombe state Governor for alleged fraud.

The witness while defending the his claim before the court said Goje awarded the contract for the supply of dictionaries to the Gombe State Universal Basic Education Board without following due procurement process.

Abaji further added that the Governor while in office paid 85 percent of the N1 billion to the contractor, Real and Integrated Hospitality Company, as against the prescribed 15 percent contained in the UBEB guideline.

The witness, a former Secretary of UBEB also revealed to the court that his former boss, Aliyu el-Naffty, who was the UBEB chairman at the time awarded the contract the same day and ordered that the advance payment be made based on the directive of the ex-governor.

Mr. Mohammed Aliyu, another witness also testified against the former governor presenting receipts of all payments made to the food contractor to the government during Goje’s eight-year administration.

The trial presided over by Justice Quadri was however adjourned till October 4 and 5, 2016.
