Northern Christians: We won’t back down on rejection of Muslim-Muslim ticket

2 Min Read

Chairmen of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the 19 Northern States and the FCT on Tuesday reiterated their stern rejection of the same-faith ticket adopted by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2023 presidential election.

The clerics made their position known in a meeting in Abuja convened at the instance of former Speaker, House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara and former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal.

In a Tuesday tweet, Dogara disclosed that the purpose of the meeting was to take a stand on 2023.

Sharing a photo of the stakeholders present, Dogara said, “The Fight for Justice Continues. Today, we held a Consultative Meeting with Christian Leaders From the 19 Northern States and the FCT on the Pan-Nigerian Platform to Adopt in 2023.”

Confirming the meeting, the Chairman of CAN in Kaduna State, Rev. John Joseph Hayab, said his colleagues from all other northern states attended except the Katsina State Chairman.

“We are saying there is no going back on our stance against the Muslim-Muslim ticket of the APC,” Daily Post quoted Hayab as saying.

However, he said that leading Christian leaders across the nation would be consulted before the next line of action is taken.
