The Federal Government has lamented that the lack of compliance to the lockdown order declared to contain the coronavirus was responsible for rising cases of infection in the country.
President Muhammadu Buhari had ordered a two week lockdown on March 30 which he would later extend by two weeks on April 13 in Lagos, Abuja and Ogun in an effort to curb the spread of the disease.
There have been numerous complaints however that Nigerians are not complying with the lockdown order.
On Sunday, the Lagos State Police Command announced the arrest of 620 people for contravening the lockdown order.

The Minister of State for Health, Olorunnibe Mamora stated that non compliance with the order was responsible for the spread of the Coronavirus in the country during the daily briefing of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19.
“The rising number of cases is of concern to all but there is evidence of increasing in country community transmission which to a large extent is as a result of non-compliance with lockdown orders and other non-medical interventions and other presumptive source of exposure to infections.”
“The unauthorized treatment of highly contagious COVID-19 patients in private homes or unaccredited health facilities with the risk of infecting their families, other patients, visitors and health workers. These factors necessitated the active case finding strategy with the house to house and cluster testing which has contributed to increased case detection.”
Nigeria currently has 1,273 confirmed Coronavirus cases in the country with 249 recoveries and 40 deaths.
