The Nigerian film industry is grieving the passing of veteran actor Emmanuel France. Filmmaker Olufemi Ogedengbe announced France’s death on Instagram, describing him as a legend.
France’s nationality was often debated, with many believing him to be Ghanaian. However, in a 2011 interview, he clarified that he held a Nigerian passport and considered himself a “Gold Coastian” due to his grandparents’ roots.
With a career spanning decades, France appeared in numerous Nollywood films, including “Cross My Sin,” “She Is My Sister,” “The Director,” “Narrow Escape,” “Witches,” “Silent Night,” and “Exile.” He began his career in Ghana, joining the Ghana Film Corporation in 1969.
France’s passing adds to the long list of Nigerian actors who have died in 2024, including Ganiyu “Ogunjimi” Oyeyemi, Tolani Quadri Oyebamiji (Sisi Quadri), Junior Pope, Amaechi Muonagor, John Okafor (Mr. Ibu), and Dayo Adewunmi (Sule Suebebe).
