The news of a Nollywood actress, Oge Okoye, who claimed that the dogs of a Hollywood star were hers, was a top trending story on Google this week, the company’s spokesman, Mr Taiwo Kola-Ogunlade, had said.
Kola-Ogunlade, Google’s Communications and Public Affairs Manager, Anglophone West Africa, disclosed this in a statement he made available to newsmen in Lagos on Thursday.
He said that the top trending news from March 1 to March 8 was all-round sensational.
“Okoye sneaked into 2017 Africa Magic Viewer’s Choice Awards (AMVCA) unnoticed.
“The popular actress earlier in the week was a trending topic; after she shared and claimed the American actress, Kenya Moore’s dogs, King and Twirl, as hers.
Though she later deleted the picture, the internet has not stopped trolling her,” the Google spokesman said.
The Africa Magic Viewer’s Choice Awards (AMVCA) proved to be outstanding, Kola-Ogunlade said.
“The fifth edition of the AMVCA took place during the week at the prestigious Eko Hotel Convention Centre. It brought together some of the biggest celebrities in Nigeria.
“The mega event which has been judged a major improvement over the previous editions saw Izu Ojukwu’s ’76 winning most awards.
“The event has not stopped trending on Google since then,’’’ he said.
The Google manager said that Wizkid’s new song `Sweet Love’, which was in appreciation of his entry into RCA Records/Sony Music International family got online attention.
“Nigerian International superstar, Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun , popularly known as Wizkid was officially welcomed to RCA Records/Sony Music International family on the social media.
“The crooner celebrated the announcement with a new song, `Sweet Love’ which showed appreciation and celebration of his fans,’’ he said.
Tempted to touch was the issue that triggered searches for the Big Brother Naija show, Kola-Ogunlade said.
According to him, one of the Big Brother Naija show housemates, Ekemini Ekerette, popularly known as Kemen, began to trend on the internet after he was disqualified before the eviction show on Sunday.
Kola-Ogunlade said that the participant was caught on tape fondling Tboss without her consent and was accused of going against the house rules.
He said that since the report of his actions, he had been under fire on the social media.
Kola-Ogunlade said that the internet was abuzz this week with the sex-scandal of Canada-based singer, Stephanie Otobo and Apostle Suleiman of the Omega Fire Ministry.
“The singer who released a series of photos and chats with the pastor on her social media page was also docked at the Magistrate Court in Lagos earlier in the week.
“Apostle Suleiman was also in the news some time ago with the state agencies for inciting violence,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Google Trends which was launched in May 2006 allows one to see how popular search terms and their demography have been over time on Google. (NAN)
