A sporadic gun fight between a seven-man gang of armed robbers and some policemen in Delta state has claimed the life of a Nollywood actor Clem Onyeka.
The fierce battle which occurred along DBS road, off Okpanam road close to police headquarters, Asaba was initiated by the robbers who attacked a bullion van.
The policemen escorting the bullion van then engaged the bandits on an intense gunfight which lasted for hours.
In the course of random shooting, actor Clem Onyeka who was returning from a movie location was killed by gun bullets.
A police officer, one of the robbers and an anonymous person were also reportedly shot dead.
The Delta Police Command Public Relations Officer DSP Celestina Kalu, addressing correspondents after the incident said that “the police escort displayed gallantry, as they repelled the attack of the robbers in a fierce gun duel.”
She disclosed that the “bullion van was coming from Awka, capital of Anambra state to deposit money at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in Asaba.”
“It was a serious gun battle as the robbers, who operated in a SUV vehicle and a Toyota Sienna car, opened fire at the bullion van. The police escort responded and killed a member of the gang, but his members took his corpse away and escaped in their waiting vehicle,” she explained.
