Nollywood Actor Segun Arinze Reflects on 12-Year Hiatus from Marriage

2 Min Read

Veteran Nollywood actor Segun Arinze recently shed light on his 12-year break from marriage after his first union with actress Anne Njemanze ended in 1997.

In an interview on the “WithChude” podcast, Arinze acknowledged the confusion he experienced following the divorce, stating, “I was confused about getting the right person.” This led him to navigate various relationships for over a decade.

“I got into so many crazy relationships,” Arinze revealed, “both the good, crazy, and bad, I’ve seen all.” He went on to describe a turning point in 2007: “I cried to God and said ‘Father Lord I have had enough can you just give me a wife’.”

A chance encounter at a wedding in the same year proved to be a turning point. Though initially hesitant, Arinze, with the encouragement of fellow comedian Julius Agwu, managed to connect with the woman who would become his wife.

“We are sixteen years in marriage now with three lovely kids,” Arinze shared. He expressed his gratitude for his wife, a lawyer who also serves as his legal advisor.

Arinze chose to remain silent about the details of his first marriage, stating, “When that happened to me in 1997 I kept quiet. I did not say anything. I just let it go. Till date I said nothing and I do not want to say anything.” He emphasized, “It happened. The shit will always happen. Everybody has a closet.”
