Ejike Asiegbu, a respected figure in the Nigerian film industry, has publicly apologized to Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma for his part in a video that criticized the state’s management of the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport.
The video, which featured several prominent Nollywood actors including Uche Nnanna-Maduka, Fred Amata, Gloria Nobert Young, Grace Amah, and Keppy Ekpenyong, expressed frustration over a power outage at the airport. Nnanna-Maduka’s impassioned plea highlighted the group’s disappointment, questioning the governance and infrastructure management in Imo State in 2024.
In a swift response, the governor’s chief press secretary, Oguwuike Nwachuku, penned an article suggesting that the actors were incentivized to create the video. This accusation prompted Asiegbu’s apology, where he emphasized the integrity of his colleagues and himself, stating, “We are not swayed by apples and carrots as Mr. Oguwike has maliciously adduced.”
