Some church members who were arrested by the police in Ogba area of Lagos following complaint by neighbours have been arraigned on charges ordering on disturbance of public peace.
The church members were arrested at their church located in Olaomibiyi Street, Ogba and charged before Chief Magistrate (Mrs) T. Akanni of the Lagos Magistrate’s Court sitting in Ogba.
The accused persons are: Ngozichukwu Onyebuchi (44), Clement Eromosele (26), Chukwudi Akwegbu (26), Chibuzor Chukwu (18), Godspower Enudi (21) and Okorie Livonus (36).
They committed the offence on January 14, 2016, the court heard.
The Punch reports that, before the church members’ arrest, the landlord and residents of the building where they were holding church meetings had pleaded with them to lower their voices when praying but they refused.
They were charged on a two-count charge of engaging in a conduct capable of causing a breach of the peace, which the police prosecutor Clifford Ogu said contravened and was punishable under sections 410 and 166 (1)(d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2011.
They were released on bail of N50,000 each, with two sureties in like sum.
The case has been adjourned till February 15, 2016.
