Governors in four geo-political zones of Nigeria have sworn not to issue grazing lands to Fulani herdsmen despite the threat of unrest and insecurity made by the Leader of the Herdsmen Association.
Last week, The Herald reported Abdullahi Boyejo, National President of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore threatened to disrupt the peace of any state that refuses to give the herdsmen land for grazing and farming .
In Abdullahi’s words, “We have grazing routes and grazing reserves and if Nigeria wants to solve the herdsmen and farmers clashes once and for all, you are a governor and you want to enjoy peace in your state, you don’t need any long meeting, just create a particular area for the Fulani and equip them with modern amenities.
However, Governors of the South-South, South-West, South-South, South-East and the Middle Belt zones remain unfazed in their resolve not to donate land to herdsmen.
The Governors who spoke through their media aides said the peace of their states can and will not be determined by mere herdsmen.
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has also condemned Abdullahi Boyejo for uttering such inciteful statement. He said Abdullahi was wrong to threaten any state with unrest by their refusal to grant herders grazing lands.
