The Group Managing Director of the NNPC, Dr. Maikanti Baru, has suggested the setting up of a joint committee by the NNPC and FIRS to update the corporation’s tax obligation up to 2015.
This is contained in a statement signed by Alhaji Garba-Deen Muhammad, Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division, NNPC, in Abuja.
It said Baru made the call during a courtesy visit on Mr Tunde Fowler, the Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue in Abuja.
The statement said Baru assured that all NNPC’s its joint venture partners would align themselves to ensure that the right taxes were paid.
Baru in the statement, expressed the readiness of the NNPC to continue to collaborate with the FIRS, Central bank of Nigeria (CBN) and other government agencies to generate revenue for the Federal Government.
It stated that the FIRS boss commended the corporation for subjecting itself to tax audit.
According to the statement, the move shows that the corporation operates as a good responsible corporate citizen.
Fawler thanked NNPC for the cooperation it had extended to FIRS on tax matters over the years, adding that the two organisations were “children of the same father” committed to generating revenue for the Federal Government.
