Less than two weeks after a major gas plant explosion left scores dead and many more injured in Nnewi, Anambra State, two petrol stations were burnt to the ground in the early hours of Monday in Amunko, Nnewi Okpuno Nnewichi area of Nnewi.
According to witnesses, the fire that started around 6.20am, began as a tanker was dispensing fuel to the popular Organizer filling station.
It was gathered that a fuel attendant caused the fire by selling fuel to a car owner while the tanker was discharging its content into an underground tank.
Also razed was a nearby filling station known as Red.
Although no casualty was recorded, the tanker and a nearby car was reportedly destroyed by the fire outbreak.
Residents of the area were said to have mobilised and called fire services to quell the inferno before it destroyed anymore property.
Recall that a December 24 explosion at the Chikason Group gas plant wreaked human and material havoc in Nnewi.
