Leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu says the group’s security arm, Eastern Security Network (ESN) will continue to serve its mandate of protecting the South-East against external aggression.
He stated this in apparent response to claims by security agencies that the IPOB and ESN were the so-called unknown gunmen attacking security agents and formations as well as other public facilities in the geopolitical zone to pave way for the actualisation of Biafra.
Recall that the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Maj.-Gen. Faruk Yahaya was in Imo State on Wednesday and praised troops of 34 Brigade Obinze as well as sister security agencies for “turning the tide of the recent spate of insecurity that resulted from the criminal activities of the proscribed group, IPOB, in Imo State”.
The Herald had reported that Yahaya was at the 82 Division Enugu on Tuesday where he said that the Army would prosecute to the letter President Muhammadu Buhari”s mandate to restore peace across the country.
According to the COAS, the Nigerian Army will continue to pursue individuals and groups taking arms against the state.
Kanu, who reiterated that IPOB and ESN were not behind the attacks, however said that the security outfit will not cease to protect Igbos against “brutal attacks of terrorists, bandits and herdsmen”,
“Again #ESN was created out of necessity. As long as Buhari’s regime continues to kill and abduct #Biafrans across the (SE)!
“ESN will continue to protect Igbo people from the brutal attacks of terrorists, bandits and herdsmen,” Kanu wrote in a Wednesday tweet.
