Wazobia Football Club of Abuja on Sunday defeated city rivals FC Hearts by a lone goal in a 2015/2016 National League One (NLO) Division Two match.
The local derby played at the Area 3 football pitch, a Division Two Group D1 Week One match, saw Samuel Okori scoring the lone goal.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the match came a minute to the end of first half.
After the match, Paul Ezebuiro, coach of Wazobia FC, said his team played below expectations even though they won.
“Though we won, my players did not live up to expectations.
“We have so many new players in the team, who have not even played in the league before. So, I guess the feeling made them play the way they did.
“But we will go back and work on our mistakes to be better in our next match,’’ Ezebuiro said.
Coach Shehu Gaya of FC Hearts said he was disappointed that his team lost their first match.
“It is sad in any competition to lose your first match. So, I am very disappointed.
“We played well, even better, but due to some errors we committed in first half, the game’s result was not in our favour.
“We will go back and make necessary corrections so that we can win our remaining matches and possibly gain promotion,’’ he said.
In another NNL Division Two match, Kuje United of defeated visiting Lions FC of Gboko 2-1.(NAN)
