NIMet New Boss Promises All-Inclusive Administration

3 Min Read

Prof. Mansur Matazu, the new Director-General of Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), on Wednesday in Abuja, promised to run an all-inclusive administration to advance the agency.

Matazu made the pledge in a statement issued by Mr Muntari Ibrahim, NiMet’s General Manager of Public Relations.

The statement quoted Matazu as saying this when he took over from Prof. Sani Mashi, following approval by President Muhammadu Buhari for reorganisation of Aviation agencies.

According to him, reorganisation is in line with implementation of the Buhari administration’s Aviation Development Roadmap.

Matazu expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for the opportunity to serve as the director-general of NiMet, noting that the ex-NiMet boss had always been his mentor.

Matazu acknowledged the great feat achieved by his predecessor, whom he served as Technical Assistant, and pledged to build on the successes recorded by Mashi.

He added that Mashi had achieved a lot for NiMet by taking the agency to a great height to become the best Meteorological Agency in the whole of Africa.

In his valedictory speech, Mashi gave a report of his stewardship and expressed confidence in the capability of the new director-general to build on the achievement he recorded and propel NiMet to greater heights.

He appreciated the staff for the support given to him, extend same cooperation to his successor and wished Matazu an eventful tenure.

Matazu holds a PhD in Applied Meteorology from the Federal University of Technology, Minna, and a post-doctorate degree at Erasmus University, Netherlands.

He lectured at Federal University of Technology, Minna, as well as Federal University Dutsinma, Katsina State, before joining NiMet in 2016.

He has published Books, Chapters and Peer review articles in both national and international journals.

Matazu is a member of Nigerian Environmental Society, African Forestry Forum, Nigerian Meteorological Society, the Climate Change Network, Nigeria and the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, Nigeria (REEN).

Until his appointment, he was the General Manager, Research, as well as the Technical Assistant to the former director-general.
