Nigeria’s Economic Crisis: Buhari Opens Up

2 Min Read
President Muhammadu Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has opened about Nigeria’s economic crisis, stating that the nation is managing to survive following the current economic downturn, largely caused by the dwindling international oil prices.

Buhari made this known on Thursday, July 14, as he received Ambassador Nasser Bourita, a Special Envoy of King Mohammed VI of Morocco at the presidential villa.

Buhari added that the nation is eager to see projects take off in the agricultural sector, in order to enhance food security and create jobs for unemployed youths

The move, President Buhari said, is not only food security and create jobs but also enhance the nation’s economic growth and development.

The President described as regrettable that Nigeria took things for granted when it had so much money from the petroleum sector.

“For us in Nigeria, it is like starting all over again. There was a time we had so much money and took things for granted. But with the fall in the international price of oil, we are now managing,” the President said.

A plan by Morocco to establish a fertilizer plant in Nigeria was also welcomed by President Buhari.

The plant is expected to not only serve the country, but the entire West African sub-region.

Speaking on religious extremism, the envoy, who is also Minister Delegate for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, said his country had developed strategy to deal with religious extremism, and had largely been successful in fighting terrorism.
