Nigerians Shows Support To Qatar

2 Min Read

Acting President of the Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation-Qatar (NIDO-Qatar), Michael Jonathan Asemota has urged Nigerian residents in Qatar to remain calm and go about their normal business in light of the current blockade against Qatar by neighbouring countries, stressing that “life is normal and stable in Qatar”.
The community leader made the call during a meeting with some Nigerians visiting the Nigerian African community helpdesk at the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) in Doha. The community helpdesk was the first sub-Saharan facility to open at the NHRC about a year ago.
Asemota stated that “NIDO-Qatar stands firmly with the State of Qatar and the Nigerian community wishes to express her regrets on the blockade imposed on Qatar. We wish to express our sympathy and solidarity with our amiable hosts; the Qatari people, who have for years welcomed us with open arms. We pray that the issue at hand is resolved diplomatically between the brotherly nations in the shortest possible time,” he added.
“Life is normal in Qatar as the government has taken all necessary steps to maintain normalcy. Supply of food items has not been affected. There is nothing happening in the region that suggests any threat to safety and security of residents in Qatar,” he elaborated.
The community leader further said that since its establishment and commencement of its operations, the helpdesk has constantly served expatriates of the Sub-Saharan African communities, leading to the successful and amicable resolution of large number of cases.
Most of the cases are referred to the welfare department of NIDO-Qatar, while expatriates also sometimes approach the NHRC directly.
“When we receive a complaint we refer it to legal experts at NHRC who examine the case and give proper advice to the concerned person or take up the issue with the higher authorities,” Asemota explained, adding, “The NHRC then calls the sponsors/employers and guides all parties towards towards resolution.
