Highly controversial United States’ President Donald Trump has come under fire after it was reported that he spoke of Nigerians as people who have refused to ‘return to their huts in Africa’.
The New York Times, which published the article, was reporting on the accounts of some administration officials who were present at a meeting about the administration’s immigration policy in June.
Donald Trump’s immigration policies have gained infamy ever since the first one was suggested, the ‘Muslim ban’, which saw nationals from several predominantly Islamic nations restricted from coming into the United States.
The Times reported that Mr. Trump had a ready-made excuse for almost all the countries his controversial immigration policy targeted.
He said he was banning people from Afghanistan because the country was a terrorist haven.
When the topic of Haiti came up, Trump was reported to have said they are all infested with AIDS in the nation.
When Nigeria came up to the chopping block, Trump was alleged to have said they would never “go back to their huts” in Africa.
The Times cited two officials who were present at the meeting held in Mr. Trump’s office but who sought anonymity as their sources for the information.
