the Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Thursday, April 11th, 2024, as an extra public holiday to mark the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations. This news comes just two days before the anticipated conclusion of the holy month of Ramadan, a period of fasting, prayer, and spiritual reflection.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through a statement issued by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Aisha Nuhu Dayako. The statement conveyed the heartfelt congratulations of the Federal Government to the Muslim Ummah (community) for successfully completing Ramadan.
This additional public holiday allows Nigerians, particularly Muslims, the opportunity to celebrate Eid-el-Fitr with family and friends. It’s a joyous occasion marked by feasting, exchanging gifts, attending special prayers, and giving to charity.
The Minister’s statement further urged the Muslim Ummah to embody the virtues exemplified by Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) during Ramadan, such as kindness, love, tolerance, peace, good neighborliness, and compassion. He encouraged them to carry these values into everyday life, fostering unity and positive change within the nation.
