Nigerians have taken to the micro-blogging site to welcome the appointment of former Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala on the board of Twitter.
Okonjo-Iweala, a former Nigerian Minister of Finance and former Managing Director of the World Bank, was appointed to the board alongside former President of the World Bank Group, Robert Zoellick.
A board member, Marjorie Scardino will be stepping down from the Board for personal reasons at the end of the year.
Announcing the new appointments on Thursday, the Executive Chairman of Twitter, Omid Kordestani, said, “Ngozi and Bob are distinguished leaders with unparalleled global perspective and policy expertise.
“We are confident they will be incredible assets to Twitter as we continue to focus on driving transparency and making Twitter a safer, healthier place for everyone who uses our service.
“On behalf of the Twitter Board, I want to thank Marjorie for her service on the Twitter Board over the past five years. joined the Board in 2013 and has been a strong voice on our board as our Lead Independent Director. Marjorie’s insights and contributions have been invaluable, and all of us at Twitter wish her the best and look forward to her contributions through the end of the year.”
Taking to the social media platform, many Nigerians wished Okonjo-Iweala well in her new endeavour.
However, many seized the opportunity to praise the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) under which Okonjo-Iweala served as Finance Minister while bashing the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) government for alleged shortage of ministers of commensurate qualifications.
Reacting to her new appointment, Okonjo-Iweala tweeted: “It’s a privilege to work again with Bob. ‘Look forward to contributing to the strong and visionary future for @Twitter”

And the political commentaries…
It's simple. The only thing you can do to silence your enemies is more and more success. This is the case of Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.

Everyone that Buhari and @APCNigeria accuses of corruption looks to be progressing. Ngozi Okonjo Iweala, Aruma Oteh and Akinwumi Adesina. While others after three years still have no convictions apart from "media trials".
Nigeria just wasted 3 years doing NOTHING.

Imagine the year is 2014, and Okonjo Iweala has just been accused by @PremiumTimesng that she forged her NYSC certificate….!
Tinubu will personally lead the protests, Twitter NG will be on fire. But, no, the year is 2018 and it's the winter season

Those who dragged Okonjo-Iweala and tried to tarnish her image on this same Twitter are now congratulating her on her new global recognition.
May your enemies be put to shame and forced to celebrate your success.
