A young IT expert, David Ntekim-Rex, was on Friday robbed and shot to death on the streets of Lagos.
It was gathered that the victim was returning home when the incident occurred in the Jibowu area of the state
The Jibowu axis is a well-known den for cult-related activities.
A multi-talented personality, Ntekim-Rex was also a budding artiste.
A Twitter user, @Magnanimous__ took to Twitter on Sunday to narrate Ntekim-Rex’s ordeal.
He wrote, “My ‘auntie’ has three sons. She’s always crazy about them.
“The middle child, David, is the most promising. He’s a tech guy; very young, very brilliant. David was on his was home on Friday night when he was robbed, shot and killed around Jibowu. Please say a prayer for my aunt.”
He follow-up tweets, he wrote, “David got shot around 8 pm. The police were called, David hadn’t died yet. The Nigerian police took pictures instead and were more concerned with why he, a tech guy, was carrying a laptop. Nigeria failed you, David.
“David was taken to the military hospital around the area. It took a senior nurse to come out and start checking for a pulse. He had lost a lot of blood at this point.
“The police then took David and his family to Sabo (police station), where they looked for the laptop that he had on him instead of giving them a police report. He was finally released to his family, and they got to LUTH around 12.30 am.
“He was there till the family was convinced he couldn’t be alive because he had no pulse. The country failed David. The doctors failed David. The police failed David. The system failed David. Rest in peace David Ntekim-Rex.”
The Punch reported that the 22-year-old tech genius beat 17,000 other contestants from around the globe to emerge as the co-regional winner of the annual Master the Mainframe competition, organised by AngelHack and IBM Z Academic Initiative.

He was also said to have bagged several certificates and accomplishments before graduating from the Department of Systems Engineering at the University of Lagos in 2019.
A check on his LinkedIn page showed that he was a Product Designer at a Financial Technology firm, Crevatal, before his death.
The spokesman of the Lagos State Police Command, Muyiwa Adejobi confirmed Ntekim-Rex’s death.
However, he said that the victim was already dead before the police were notified, noting that the police did not abandon him as was claimed.
Many Nigerians who took to Twitter mourned the tech guru’s demise.
They equally called on the government to step up security in the country to avoid a recurrence.
The Herald recalled that a father of one, Idowu Olawuyi was stabbed to death by robbers on December 4, 2020 in the Alagbado area of Lagos.

No matter how much money you're earning in this country, your life isn't safe!
Even a container can land on your G-Wagon while cruising jejely on the road. RIP David . https://t.co/7c3xdWYcOH

A young man got shot.
Police were called- they delayed.
When they show up, they watch him bleed away.
Hospitals were negligent- doctors and nurses said to have been unbothered.
The Police failed him.
The Health System failed him.
And now a family is left to mourn.
RIP David.

This should be a lesson to everyone, in this country, you are your security, educator and health care provider. We are in a system that takes and steal from its masses.
No where is safe, stay safe.
RIP David

RIP David
about 8 weeks ago it was Okechukwu a tech guy. Today David another tech guy.
The police failed him like they did to Oke.
I suggest that all tech firms should look into the security of our young great minds, think of accommodation at work, to forestall these deaths
