Nigerian Singer Spyro Faces Financial Strain from Fame

2 Min Read

Nigerian pop star Oludipe Oluwasanmi David, popularly known as Spyro, has voiced his concerns about the financial pressures that come with his celebrity status. The “Who Is Your Guy?” singer, who hails from Lagos, revealed that he spends an average of ₦100,000 on cash gifts every time he leaves his house, a sum that adds up to over ₦15 million annually.

In a candid social media post, Spyro expressed his frustration with the constant financial demands from people around him. He recounted an incident where an individual lashed out at him for not immediately fulfilling a cash request, highlighting the unrealistic expectations placed on celebrities.

“It’s really hard being a celebrity in this Lagos,” Spyro shared. “I told a guy I don’t have today and that I will see him next day, and he rained insults on me. Every day I step out of my house, I spend a minimum of 100k on givings. Now let’s do the math…Let’s say I go out three times a week, that’s 300k per week, making 1.2m per month, and that’s about 15 million a year. Kilode.”

The 34-year-old singer explained that the pressure to provide extends to various aspects of his life, whether he’s at a restaurant, church, or even interacting online. Despite the challenges, Spyro acknowledged his fellow entertainers for their resilience and grace in handling similar situations, calling them the “real MVPs.”
