Nigerian music sensation Michael Adebayo Olayinka, popularly known as Ruger, has set his sights on being perceived as a formidable force in the competitive music industry. The rising star, famed for his hit track ‘Asiwaju’, emphasized the importance of making a strong impact within an industry filled with fierce competition.
In a recent episode of the Afrobeats Podcast hosted by Adesope Olajide, Ruger shed light on the inspiration behind ‘Asiwaju’, revealing that the song holds personal significance for him. He sees the track as a means to establish a perception of strength and authority within the industry.
Addressing the need to be recognized as a formidable artist, Ruger commented, “When people don’t see you as a threat, it’s bad. There are a lot of artists that are in that category. When you are about to release music and nobody is shaking; you announced a single/project release date and nobody is bothered. It’s really bad.”
Ruger emphasized the importance of being anticipated in the music scene, regardless of the reception, indicating his deliberate move to position himself as a ‘threat’ among his colleagues. He believes that being seen as a ‘softy’ in the music industry is not conducive to success, urging artists to either be a ‘monster’ or be viewed as ‘food’.
In his pursuit of establishing a dominant presence, Ruger encourages fellow artists to follow their unique pace and aim to become a force to be reckoned with in the music world.
