Nigerian Singer Oxlade Opens Up About Dropping Out of University Due to Cult Threats

Nigerian singer Oxlade has revealed that he dropped out of Lagos State University (LASU) in his final year due to threats from cultists.

In an interview with Punch Newspapers on September 18, 2024, Oxlade shared that he left school to save his life after being targeted by gangs.

“I dropped out of the university in my final year because it was a crazy time. There were some gangs after me because I’m a fine boy. Being a fine boy makes you a target. It is either you join them or they off you,” he stated.

Oxlade noted that the university atmosphere has improved since his time, but during his tenure, the focus was not on academics.

After leaving school, Oxlade ran away from home, unable to share his reasons with his family.

The singer first spoke publicly about his experience with cultists in October 2023 on the Tea with Tay Podcast.

Oxlade credited his grandmother with unknowingly saving his life by asking him to come home, allowing him to escape the danger.
