1 Min Read

Nigerian rapper Illbliss paid tribute to his late colleague Oladapo Olaonipekun, better known by his stage name Dagrin, on the 14th anniversary of his death. Dagrin tragically passed away in a car accident on April 22nd, 2010, at the young age of 25.

Taking to social media on Wednesday, April 24th, 2024, Illbliss shared a photo of Dagrin alongside a heartfelt message. “Keep Resting Bro!” he wrote. “Your legacy will never end. We remember you. We respect your colossal immeasurable contributions to Nigerian Hiphop. You inspired so many. Keep resting.”

Dagrin is widely credited as a pioneer of indigenous rap in Nigeria. His music, which incorporated Yoruba lyrics, paved the way for a new generation of rappers to embrace their local languages. Hits like “Pon Pon Pon,” “Thank God” featuring Omawumi, “Kondo,” and “If I Die” continue to resonate with fans today.
