Following the arrest of a suspected leader of the Niger Delta Avengers group allegedly responsible for the blow up of Agip petroleum facility by operatives of the NSCDC, the Nigerian security agencies have scored yet another arrest.
The Nigerian Navy announced the arrest of suspected Niger Delta Avengers kingpin responsible for the damage to petroleum facilities belonging to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC and oil giant, Chevron, in Delta State.
Comm. Riami Muhammed in charge of the Nigerian Navy Ship Delta state while briefing journalists during the parade of suspects arrested at the Naval Base reveal that his team also arrested another militant leader who is believed to have anchored the last week’ attack on the SPDC 48″ crude pipeline in Forcados.
Muhammed explained further that the militant leader was arrested with the help of other security agencies. He noted that the arrested kigpin illegally operatd about 35 abandoned oil well heads and crude oil pipeline in Okpoko and Obodo creeks in the Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State.
Muhammed further said: “After several weeks of persistent efforts, the Nigerian Navy, in collaboration with other security agencies, has arrested the main coordinator of the attacks on the NNPC and the Chevron oil and gas facilities that we have witnessed since May 4, 2016, with the attack on the Chevron Okan Valve platform, offshore Escravos.
“You are aware of the recent series of attacks on oil and gas facilities in the Niger Delta and in Delta State, for which some groups or persons have claimed responsibilities. The Nigerian Navy and other security agencies have been doing their best to curtail these attacks.”
