An argument over who the better player was between Argentina’s Lionel Messi and Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo has caused the death of a Nigerian man in India.
The victim, 34-year-old Obina Durumchukwu, was stabbed to death with a broken glass by 21-year-old Michael Chukwuma after they engaged in an argument over who the world’s best player was between the Barcelona and Real Madrid stars.
The incident occurred in Nallasopara, a Mumbai suburb in India, the country’s police said.
It occurred following a party in celebration of Durumchukwu’s birthday on Saturday.
Police Inspector Kiran Kabadi said: “The two were discussing football players. One is a fan of Messi and the other was for Ronaldo.
“The deceased threw a glass into the face of the accused person. The glass broke and caused small injuries.
“After that, the accused took the broken glass and assaulted the deceased person, who died due to heavy bleeding.”
Chukwuma has been charged with murder.
Messi, 28, and Ronaldo, 31, share the last eight most prestigious award in world football, the FIFA Ballon D’Or, between them.
While Messi has won the award five times, Ronaldo has gone home with the award three times.
