A Nigerian teen, Ruti Olajugbagbe, did the country proud after emerging as the winner of the singing competition, The Voice UK.
The 18-year-old lady was hailed as the winner, beating out fellow hopeful Donel Mangena.
Ruti was not the first choice to win in many’s eyes but was right up there with the best performers and she duly delivered beating out the other competitors to win the final.
Her final performance was electrifying. She performed the song Dreams by The Cranberries, whose lead singer Dolores O’Riordan died earlier this year. The song is to be released as her debut single.
She won the £100,000 prize, as well as a deal with Republic Records.
Her first single became available as soon as the Voice final finished on Saturday night.
Ruti is a student and part-time carer from South-end-on-Sea. Ruti lives with her mum, dad and little brother Femi and currently attends the Youth Creation Performing Arts School in Stanford-le-Hope.
Ruti has said she is influenced by bands such as Bastille and Arctic Monkeys as well as singer Emeli Sande and in 2013, sang in the final of Thurrock’s young musician of the year.
She was on Team Tom for the competition, Team Tom being Tom Jones, the legendary Welsh singer.
