Nigerian Idol judge, Seyi Shay has come under intense criticism on Twitter over what critics considered her “harsh” and “brutal” assessment of a 17-year-old’s performance.
Nigerian Idol is a popular music television reality show which premiered in Nigeria in 2010.
Seyi Shay is one of three judges for the year’s edition alongside Obi Asika and DJ Sose.
During Sunday’s audition, the under-fire Seyi Shay told the young singer, “Somebody lied to you and told you to come and audition, and that person, you should go back and tell them they’re not your friends because that was not good audition.
“Oh, you have a good talking voice, and it comes out in your singing voice, but your performance, terrible. You’re never going to make money being a singer.”

The young singer walked off the stage looking downcast.

Seyi Shay should not have said that the boy would never make it in music. She should have encouraged him to continue working on his vocal training and return for another audition.

How disgusting! So Seyi Shay feels she’s God to shatter someone’s hard work like that. If you can’t encourage him to do better then be quiet let a reasonable judge impact in the young man so he improves but then again the other judges are jokers too. Smh🤦🏽♂️
