Renowned Nigerian Fuji maestro, Wasiu Alabi, widely known as Pasuma, recently shared a pivotal moment that redirected his life towards a legendary music career. In an engaging interview with Iyabo Ojo, Pasuma reminisced about a setback in his football aspirations that ultimately paved the way for his immense success in the music industry.
The turning point in Pasuma’s life occurred when his dreams of representing Nigeria in the 1985 FIFA U-16 World Championship in China were shattered. The musician vividly recounted the disappointment of not being selected for the national team, a setback that fueled his decision to channel his passion and energy into the world of music.
“I was a footballer but I decided to go into music because I was not picked to go to Kodak for the World Cup,” Pasuma disclosed during the interview. “So I now said I want to be a musician straight. I was a footballer before.”
Born and raised in the vibrant Mushin neighborhood of Lagos state, Pasuma’s journey into the music scene was inspired by his admiration for the legendary K1 de Ultimate. In 1984, he began composing songs, marking the inception of a career that would later shape the landscape of Fuji music.
In 1993, Pasuma made a significant mark with the release of his debut album titled “Recognition.” The album showcased his unique style and contributed to establishing him as a prominent figure in the Fuji music genre.
