A Nigerian born UFC fighter, Kamaru Usman, has just made history by emerging as the only African descent to ever become a champion in the game. Usman fought so hard against Tyron Woodley for five rounds and his victory made him the new welterweight division champion. The Nigerian fighter virtually won all the rounds as he dished some serious continuous attacks to his opponent. He was in charge all through the fight, winning by 50-44, 50-44, and 50-45 respectively. In the end, the judges unanimously announced him as the winner.
Usman has now won 14 fights and lost just once. He has not lost any match in the UFC. Meanwhile, his opponent, Woodley, has also not been defeated since he lost to Rory MacDonald in 2014.
The fight quickly switched in favor of Usman as he had Woodley backpedaling right from the beginning of their bout. In the second round, he hit him with his elbow and drew blood from him in the process. Usman subsequently had about 336 strikes against Woodley’s 60. He took him down twice and eventually came out victorious.
Woodley later urged that they had a re-match.
