The Ogun state government is set to honour Nigerian born British boxer, Anthony Joshua who knocked Ukrainian veteran boxer, Wladimir Klitschko to the canvas in the 11th round on Saturday night.
In honour of the boxer, the Ogun state government is set to name a stadium after him in Nigeria.
According to the majority leader of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Yinka Mefe, who watched the Saturday night match, The Sagamu International Stadium will be named after the boxer.
Anthony Joshua who was reportedly turned down by the Nigerian Boxing officials nine years ago was born to parents who hailed from Ogun State in Nigeria.
ESPN reported that Mafe has since the boxer’s victory vowed to rename the stadium after the boxer while the popular Cinema Street will also bear his name.
Mafe said: “We are proud of what he has achieved as a son of Sagamu, and we will be happy to do our own little bit to show our appreciation and support for him.”
