Globally acclaimed Nigerian artists Davido, Burna Boy, Ayra Starr, Asake, and Olamide have received nominations for the prestigious forthcoming 66th Grammy Awards.
Burna Boy, led the pack with an impressive total of four nominations with Davido, Asake, Ayra Starr, and Olamide marking their debut Grammy nominations.
The nominations are distributed across various categories, with the entire Nigerian quintet finding themselves in the inaugural Best African Music Performance category, sharing the space with South Africa’s Tyla. The newly established category features a diverse range of nominees, including Asake and Olamide’s ‘Amapiano,’ Burna Boy’s ‘City Boys,’ Ayra Starr’s ‘Rush,’ Davido and Musa Keys’ ‘Unavailable,’ and Tyla’s ‘Water.’
Burna Boy clinched additional nominations in three other categories. His track ‘Sitting On Top of the World’ featuring 21 Savage secured a nomination for Best Melodic Rap, ‘I Told Them’ earned a spot in the Best Global Music Album category, and ‘Alone’ received recognition in the Best Global Music Performance category.
Davido also garnered three nominations, including ‘Timeless’ for Best Global Music Album and ‘Feel’ for Best Global Music Performance, making this his debut and most nominations in a year.
The 66th Grammy Awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on February 4, 2024, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
