Nigerian Artist Ruger Reveals Reason For Making Departure From Old Record Label, Jonzing World

2 Min Read

Afrobeat star Ruger has taken to Twitter today, April 11th, 2024, to reveal the reason for his departure from Jonzing World record label.

In a series of tweets, Ruger expressed gratitude for the label introducing him to the industry but cited a lack of creative and financial support as his reason for leaving.

As much as I’m very appreciative of the fact that Jonzing World introduced me to the world,” Ruger wrote, “I just couldn’t continue with them because they got too comfortable with the money they were making from me and couldn’t push me further as I wanted to be pushed.

Ruger also hinted at frustrations with contract negotiations and a lack of transparency from the label. “Was supposed to renegotiate the contract but I couldn’t imagine 5 years more without action,” he tweeted. “Dey use my money Dey fund new artist, leaving me in the dark, not being transparent. I just laugh how e be now

The tweets suggest a period of growing dissatisfaction within the label. “I complained, I got angry, some people tell me say no be so dem Dey do things [It’s not how things are done],” Ruger wrote. “I still go back HQ go collect fake hugs and handshakes. Nothing still change. I wan mad [I want to go crazy]

Jonzing World has yet to respond publicly to Ruger’s claims.
