The Nigeria Consul-General in South Africa, Godwin Adama, has urged Nigerians in the Diaspora to do things that will change the narrative to good and positive image of the country.

Adama, who said this in a statement in Abuja on Wednesday, urged Diasporas to be good ambassadors of Nigeria wherever they found themselves.

He spoke  at the celebration of Nigeria’s Independence Day by the Nigerian community in Johannesburg, South Africa.

According to him, the celebration tagged,“Nigeria at 58: The Journey So Far,” has a display of art and culture of Nigeria, showing diversities of the country.

“It was celebrated with Artist Association of Nigeria under the leadership of Mrs Chinze Ojobo, its President.

“It was also celebrated along with several South Africans, corporate bodies and diplomats. The envoys of the U.S., Canada, India and Kingdom of Eswatini (Swaziland) and several other diplomats who graced the occasion,” he said.

Adama said that there was also an  art exhibition which was first of its kind in South Africa.

He said that it was  a development that showcased Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage to the extent that the U.S. and Canadian Consuls General made positive comments on Nigeria at 58.

The Consul-General said there  was much to celebrate by Nigeria, having exited the recession which set in after the inauguration of Mr. President in 2015.

He assured Diasporas of the preparedness of the government to create an atmosphere conducive for a free and fair election in 2019 in line with the president’s speech on Oct. 1 .

Adama urged Nigerians to look forward with hope while praying for the success of the elections. (NAN)
