As part of preparations for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, the Super Eagles of Nigeria will play a warm-up game with the Three Lions of England.
This was disclosed by the General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Mohammed Sanusi.
“We plan to play a friendly against England in June, before the World Cup,” he said, adding that the details of the game would be confirmed at a later date.
Like other teams heading to the World Cup, Nigeria is eager to fine tune preparations for the mundial by competing against similar opposition to their group-stage opposition.
The Super Eagles last played against the Three Lions in the third game of Group F at the 2002 World Cup which ended goalless. Though England progressed to the knockout stages of the competition, Nigeria crashed at the group stage.
While Nigeria is yet to confirm any friendlies ahead of Russia 2018, the England national team will play against Netherlands on March 23 and Italy on March 27.
