1 Min Read

All is set for the inauguration of Nigeria’s first ever multi-billion naira Light Rail project.

The electric-powered train which is set to be commissioned in Cross River state according to reports is said to run at a speed of about 40 kilometres per hour.

According to the Nigerian Television Authority, NTA, the project which is the first of its kind would soon be inaugurated by the President, Muhammadu Buhari.

The electric-powered rail which has three stations at Tinapa, Tinapa Lakeside Hotel and the Calabar International Conference Centre is equipped with a 12-car monorail system.

The station’s Electrical Engineer, Mba Mba, while speaking on the project said the project had been completed since December, 2015.

He said: “Right now, the Calabar Monorail is ready for use pending inauguration by appropriate authorities.

“We have test-run the system and confirmed its readiness. Gov. Ben Ayade was here with his team to see for himself what is on ground. Tourists troop here on daily basis to take a ride. But they were disappointed as they were turned back.”
