The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto, Matthew Hassan Kukah has lamented the huge presence of military personnel across the country, saying it was a sign that the country is not democratising.
Thr cleric also urged those ‘turning a blind eye’ to deteriorating security challenges in the country to avoid taking the patience of the military for granted.
Kukah made these known in a Friday press briefing ahead of the public lecture themed: “How To Make Democracy Work for Africa, organised by The Kukah Centre.
He blamed the increasing security challenges in the country on the propagate of hate speech, adding that the effects of the 2015 general election were still being felt.
While warning the government against complacency, he said the patience of the citizenry and military in the last 18 years has reached tipping point.
“We as Nigerians should not take the patience of the military for granted,” stressed.
Hr added, “I go to Sokoto with my big cross. I don’t feel insecure. A lot of Moslem youths carry my bag, I don’t see them as Moslem youths. The truth of the matter is that our country is in big trouble.
